Horizontal and Vertical Movement Estimation for Underground Mining Using Alos Palsar

چکیده
In this paper, the capability of determining three dimensional (3D) ground displacements due to underground mining using multiple ALOS PALSAR interferometric pairs acquired with different viewing geometry has been demonstrated in the area of West Cliff colliery, for longwall 32. 3D displacement maps have been derived from four interferometric pairs acquired from two different incidence angles each with both ascending and descending orbits. The results were compared with GPS field survey data obtained between April and May 2008. The obtained results and the GPS data agree well with each other in vertical and eastwest directions. However, the precision of displacement measured in the north-south direction was lower than the other two directions mainly due to two reasons: (1) lack of viewing geometries, and (2) poor temporal overlap in the interferometric combination datasets.

Combination of Multiple Repeat Orbits of ENVISAT for Mining Deformation Monitoring
In conventional differential radar interferometry (DInSAR), the ground surface displacement can be measured along the line-ofsight. In order to measure the vertical and horizontal displacements DInSAR results of the same deformation derived from at least two different look directions are required. This study utilised the DInSAR results generated from ENVISAT data acquired from three different l...

This study uses the spaceborne radar interferometry technique to monitor ground subsidence and far-field displacement due to underground longwall mining in the Southern Coalfields of New South Wales, Australia. The radar images acquired by the European ENVISAT/ASAR and the Japanese ALOS/PALSAR sensors were used to compute the terrain deformation. ASAR and PALSAR sensors use microwave signals in...
متن کاملAssessment of radar interferometry performance for ground subsidence monitoring due to underground mining
This paper describes the results from the recently launched SAR satellites for the purpose of subsidence monitoring over underground coal mine sites in the state of New South Wales, Australia, using differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) technique. The quality of the mine subsidence monitoring results is mainly constrained by noise due to the spatial and temporal decorre...
متن کاملTime-series deformation monitoring over mining regions with SAR intensity-based offset measurements
Underground mining can induce large vertical displacements that often lead to the loss of coherence in repeat-pass interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Using SAR intensity images, this paper employs the image offset tracking method to map SAR slant range changes due to ground deformation over areas of mining. The rationale of slant range offset measurement with respect to the ...
متن کاملInterferometric Monitoring of an Active Underground Mining Field with High-resolution Sar Sensors
Underground mining activities lead to ground movements at the earth surface. An area-wide monitoring and the documentation of mining induced influences are required by the mining authorities. Work done in the past confirmed a significant potential of SAR interferometric methods to contribute information to such monitoring. Nevertheless, in spite of advanced SAR interferometric processing techni...
